On 18 April 2016 the Boeing 737-800 British Airways Aircraft landed at St Helena around 12pm. This was an historic day for the island as this was the first commercial flight. This is the aircraft that will serve St Helena in future with flights from Johannesburg.

The business jet was chartered by Basil Read to bring an Air Safety Support International (ASSI) team of five personnel to St Helena to assess the airport.

A Bombardier Challenger 300 business jet landed at St Helena Airport on Sunday 10 April 2016.This was the first jet to land at the airport, and was travelling from Johannesburg via Namibia.
