LARGE PASSENGER AIRCRAFT TO LAND TOMORROW An Avro RJ100 jet aircraft (pictured), operated by Tronos Jet Maintenance and carrying Atlantic Star Airlines personnel, is scheduled to fly to Wideawake Airport, Ascension Island, and then to St Helena Airport this Friday, 21 October 2016. Both are technical stops, as part of a route for delivery of the aircraft to Chile.

Taking advantage of weather conditions, the sixth flight into St Helena Airport, a Bombardier Challenger business jet, departed the Island this morning at 09.47hrs, slightly ahead of its scheduled departure time (10.00hrs).

A Bombardier Challenger business jet aircraft operated by ExecuJet and chartered by Basil Read will arrive at St Helena Airport on Monday 20 June and depart on Tuesday 21 June 2016. This will be the sixth fixed-wing aircraft to land at St Helena Airport.

St Helena Government today confirms that further safety and operational work is required prior to the Official Opening of the Island’s new Airport – and that this event has therefore been postponed. While this means that the Airport will not officially open on 21 May 2016 as originally planned, the safety of aircraft and passengers is of course paramount.

History was once again made on St Helena today as the first large passenger jet aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 (ZS-ZWG), touched down at St Helena’s new Airport shortly after 12.00 noon. This is the actual Boeing aircraft which will serve the St Helena/Johannesburg route.

ASSI VISIT A team of five personnel from Air Safety Support International will arrive at St Helena on Sunday 10 April 2016. IMPLEMENTATION FLIGHT Following the completion of ASSI’s planned activities next week, it is anticipated that Comair will then operate an Implementation Flight to the Island in a Boeing 737-800 aircraft in preparation for the commencement of scheduled air services.

Justin Rothwell, Senior Aerodrome Inspector from Air Safety Support International (ASSI) was on-Island between 29 August and 5 September 2015. The purpose of his visit was to undertake an assessment to verify the conditions required for intermediary use of the runway for calibration flights.
